The famous Butz-Choquin brand was created in 1858 by Gustave Butz and Jean-Baptiste Choquin by creating their first pipe, the "Choquin pipe". Since then, the factory has moved to Saint-Claude, the world capital of briar pipes. For more than a century and a half now, Butz-Choquin has been perpetuating the tradition by manufacturing pipes by hand, each one as original and elegant as the next.
With a touch of an automotive industrial flare, Butz-Choquin's Formula Black series presents its briars — like this classical straight Billiard — in a low-gloss, matte finish that has a feel in hand like polished sandstone, paired to a jet-black acrylic mouthpiece. Just some minor rim darkening and dings around the bowl on this piece.
